Free Crochet Pattern: Rooster Amigurumi


So a couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how I made this rooster for the Lunar New Year. I just got around to writing the pattern and decided to share. It's a quick little project worked in the round. I hope you like it!

Finished Measurements: 
Approximately 2 ½" tall x 3" wide

Materials:
  • Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Yarn in White (worsted-weight yarn, less than a skein)
  • Lion Brand Vanna's Choice Baby Yarn in Duckie Yellow (worsted-weight yarn, small amounts)
  • Caron Simply Soft Yarn in Autumn Red (worsted-weight yarn, small amounts)
  • G hook (4 mm)
  • 6 mm safety eyes
  • tapestry needle
  • polyester filling
  • blush (optional)


Abbreviations:
ea: each
ch: chain
st: stitch
sc: single crochet
sc2tog: single crochet two together
dc: double crochet
sl st: slip stitch
rep: repeat

Final stitch count for each round is noted in parentheses.

Body:
Round 1: With white yarn, 6 sc in magic ring. (6 st)
Round 2: 2 sc in ea st around. (12 st)
Round 3: *2 sc, sc in next st*, rep 6 times. (18 st)
Round 4: *2 sc, sc in next 2 st*, rep 6 times. (24 st)
Round 5: *2 sc, sc in next 3 st*, rep 6 times. (30 st)
Round 6: *2 sc, sc in next 4 st*, rep 6 times. (36 st)
Rounds 7-13: Sc in ea st around. (36 st)
Round 14: *Sc2tog, sc in next 4 st*, rep 6 times. (30 st)
Round 15: *Sc2tog, sc in next 3 st*, rep 6 times. (24 st)
Insert safety eyes between rounds 9 and 10, six stitches apart. Begin stuffing the body with polyester filling.
Round 16: *Sc2tog, sc in next 2 st*, rep 6 times. (18 st)
Round 17: *Sc2tog, sc in next st*, rep 6 times. (12 st)
Round 18: Sc2tog 6 times. (6 st)
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Wings (make 2):
Round 1: With white yarn, 6 sc in magic ring. (6 st)
Round 2-4: Sc in ea st around. (6 st)
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Comb:
With red yarn, ch 5.
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st in next ch. (3 dc, sl st) in last ch.
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

In the picture below, I numbered each chain and indicated what stitches to use, working from right to left:

Here's the completed comb:

Wattle:
With red yarn, ch 3.
Row 1: Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in last ch. (2 st)
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Beak:
Round 1: With yellow yarn, 5 sc in magic ring. (5 st)
Round 2: Sc in ea st around. (5 st)
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Feet (make 2):
Round 1: With yellow yarn, 5 sc in magic ring. (5 st)
Fasten off and leave tail for sewing.

Assembly:
1. Sew beak between eyes.
2. Sew wattle right under the beak.
3. Sew comb centered on top of the head.
4. Sew on the wings.
5. Sew on the feet.
6. Dab a little blush onto each cheek. (I used a peachy blush from my makeup bag.)
