Unicorn Beanie

I made this beanie for a friend based on the pattern Unicorn Fever by Heidi Rosin, and it was my second time incorporating colorwork! I actually had to give it a couple of tries because the stitches kept turning out too tight or loose, but I think it got better each go. The beanie ended up a little tight around the graphics though still wearable, and putting it on my head for about thirty minutes helped stretch it out a bit. Ultimately pretty happy with the result. Also, the folded brim and doubled yarn used for the chart provide extra warmth around the ears (yay). I just hope my friend will feel the same way!

What to Do with Itchy Wool Yarn (Hint: Make Potholders!)

A few years ago, I bought a couple of wool skeins from Michael's not realizing that I was sensitive to wool, so I crocheted a cowl... and of course it made me itch like crazy. I couldn't bring myself to give up the yarn though and ended up hoarding it in my stash.
Fast forward to last week—I needed some potholders and decided to make my own but didn't want to use anything super expensive. It was also a chance to do some stashbusting and use up yarn that I can't wear against my skin.

The Finished Summer Bralette

I really love the minimalist design of this bralette, and best of all, it's super comfortable! The cotton fabric makes the bralette breathable and good for all seasons, so I can see myself lounging around in it year round.

WIP: The (Late) Summer Bralette

Maja Karlsson's "The Summer Bralette" pattern caught my eye a while back, and I had it queued up on Ravelry mostly because I didn't want to deal with translating it. (It's written in Swedish.) It turned out that Google Translate could translate the pattern into English pretty well, though I used an English/Swedish glossary to check any knitting terms that got lost in translation. It seems that knits and purls are switched around in some parts of the pattern, but the straightforward design makes it easy to figure out which stitch to use. I've actually made a good amount of progress since taking this picture. Just hoping it'll fit!

First Knit Sweater

My first knit sweater is ~finally~ complete! This had been an ongoing project since the end of January, so it definitely felt good when I wove in all the ends last week. (I don't think I can make another fingering weight sweater for a while...)
Close-up of lacy yoke. It's the same on both the front and back.

Below are some project notes:
  • Because vintage patterns are notorious for being vague, I was a little nervous starting this project, though referencing other people's project notes (mostly CarmineZuigiber's) on Ravelry helped me plan and customize my own sweater. My modifications include: knitting in the round, making the body 2" longer than indicated in the pattern, and making the sleeves 0.75" longer.

Alola Beanie

Pulling a Cousin Itt here.

When Pokemon Sun & Moon first came out, I loved the flower beanie featured in the game and wanted one for myself, so I made my own version last year and only got around to taking pictures of it now. Being true to the original design, it sits just above my ears. (Not very practical in terms of warmth but I think it's cute!)

Madeline

Recently, I was looking at pictures of past projects and came across this little Madeline-inspired dress. It's been years since I've read the books, but I remember being so taken in by the charming illustrations when I was younger. When a friend requested a dress for her kid to wear at her Madeline-themed birthday party a couple of years ago, this project brought back a wave of nostalgia. Now, I'm not much of a seamstress, so I had to keep things simple. For the base, I tried to replicate a store-bought shift dress, and the capelet part was essentially a circle skirt with a slit. There are a few things that I would've liked to do better, e.g., make neater buttonholes, use heavier fabric for the exterior, but overall, I was glad that the dress fit the birthday girl!

Slow Sundays are the Best Sundays

I'd been out with an awful cold the past few days and just started feeling better, so I'm taking things slow to ease back into the workflow. Also, I'm thankful to smell and taste things again! This morning I made a simple pork sung (shredded dried pork) sandwich that I'd been craving all week.

(I added an over-easy fried egg and topped everything with a generous amount of cayenne pepper.)

Pepperoni Pizza Garland

When I first started crocheting, I personally didn't know anyone IRL who was interested in this sort of hobby, so I sought inspiration online and came across Twinkie Chan's super cute kitschy food scarves on LiveJournal (yes, that was years ago). I've been following her work ever since.
