Lemony Scallops

I know, I know. It's been a few months since I last posted... And yes, I'm modeling a beanie in the middle of summer.

If you follow me on Instagram, you may remember this picture (below) that I shared a while back when I got City Tweed yarn from Knit Picks in Lemon Curd (muted gold), Orca (medium gray), Plush (lavender), and Brocade (royal purple). I wish I had ordered more skeins because this yarn is soft and cozy! It also has a nice sheen to it.

So more about the beanie...

This was actually my first time doing fair isle knitting, and the "Little Scallops" pattern was perfect for a beginner like me. I cast on 96 stitches and did 2x2 ribbing in size 6 needles before switching to size 7 for the rest of the hat. When I got to the scallops part, I found this tutorial by Nancy Wynn helpful in figuring out the technique. To get the slouchy look, I made the hat a little longer than a typical beanie, decreasing when it measured about 9" to 9.25" from the brim.

I really love wearing this hat. The fabric feels warm without the bulk, and the merino wool/alpaca blend is comfy against my sensitive skin. Also, aren't the scallops cute?!

What I used:
Pattern: Little Scallops by Maria Carlander
Yarn: Knit Picks City Tweed DK (55% Merino wool, 25% Superfine alpaca, 20% Donegal tweed; 123 yards/50 grams per skein) in Lemon Curd (approximately 1/4 skein) and Orca (approximately 3/4 skein)
Needles: US 6 (4.0 mm) DPNs, US 7 (4.5 mm) DPNs
